Audi Electric R8 ePerformance

With BMW and Mercedes both talking about soon releasing electric or alternative fuel sports cars, Audi is sitting the odd one out. Rumor has it, they’ve been talking about an electric version of the R8 supercar called the ePerformance Concept. As you can see above, the bodywork would need to be noticeably different, and (at least in my opinion) a totally sperate car from the R8 line-up, which includes the V8, V10, and soon to be Spyder models. Audi Might be Keeping the 4.2-liter V8 After All

Not long ago, I was crushed to hear that Audi would be dropping their excellent 4.2-liter V8 engine in the S5 for a similarly capable but less enthusiastic supercharged V6. While the forced induction V6 can haul the car along just as well as the V8, there’s just something about that engine’s smoothness, power delivery, sound, and personality that no V6 can match. The plans were to scrap the V8 for 2011 model year in the S5, but word just came through that Audi might be reconsidering. I’ve voiced my opinion personally to an Audi product rep in the past, and he (as well as many of his Audi coworkers) agreed that the stupendous V8 could not be matched, but Audi was basing the decision on logical reasons. Since when was car enthusiasm based on logical reasoning? Based on growing enthusiasm from consumers and enthusiasts, Audi decided it might be smart to keep the 4.2-liter V8 we all love for at least through the 2011 model year. The S5 coupe will be the primary victor here, and expect the S5 convertible (bleh) to stick to the supercharged V6 plans. That’s alright, I’ll pass on the drop-top. Sportec Tunes Audi TT RS

What’s a tuning company to do when manufacturers such as Audi take their high performance sports cars – in this case the Audi TT – and make it better? The Audi TTS is Audi’s tuned version of the TT. Think that was enough? Of course not! Audi then came out with the TT RS – a turbocharged 340 hp version of the sports car. This is normally tuning company territory. Sportec decided to take it a step further with their Performance Stage 1 kit. The Sportec TT RS creates 400 hp – a 60 hp increase, and a feat achieved only by tuning the car’s ECU. A 4.2 second 0-62 mph time is a 0.4 second decrease from stock, and a significant difference for only tuning the ECU. The $1,963 price tag is high for an ECU tune, but not bad for a 65 hp jump. Like the TT RS itself (unless we’re right,) the tuning package will only be available in Europe. The 2010 Audi S4 is Finally Here

Audi just sent out an email to newsletter subscribers to check out the new 2010 S4, which is now featured on their customer-facing website. The A4 is a fantastic vehicle, and serves as a high quality, luxurious and sporty version of a mid-range sedan. The S4, which for 2009 was not updated with the new A4 design, is now part of the new generation, and it looks great. The 2010 Audi S4 features a 333 horsepower, 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine capable of propelling the car from 0 to 60 in only 4.9 seconds, and still gets 28 mpg on the highway. We drove a 2009 Audi A4 with the 265 hp 3.2-liter V6 a few months ago and it’s only rated at 26 mpg on the highway. This new S4 powerplant is impressive. Of course you’ll never be driving slow enough to manage 28 mpg, but it’s good knowing you could. The power will be transferred through a 7-speed S-tronic or 6-speed manual transmission down to the AWD quattro system. On the outside, exclusive front and rear sport bumpers, unique aluminum optic finish on the mirrors and rear diffuser, and chrome quad tailpipes set the car apart from the A4. VW and Audi Recall Seven Vehicles due to Transmission Problems

VW of America announced a voluntary recall of about 16,000 VW and Audi models due to a faulty temperature sensor in the DSG transmission. The recall only applies to certain models built between September 2008 and August 2009,w with this octane booster: BRT822Cx, including the VW Jetta, Jetta SportWagen, GTI, and Eos, as well as Audi’s 2009 A3, TT and TT Roadster. According to Audi of America, “Some customers with the affected vehicles have experienced illuminated warning lamps in the dashboard, and in rare instances, reported that the transmission went into neutral.” Volkswagen will be contacting affected customers within the coming weeks, but if you’re among those with a recalled vehicle, contact your dealer right away or call Volkswagen at (800) 444-8982 or Audi at (800)...

2010 Audi RS5 is Almost Here – More Spy Shots

As we near the release of the 2010 RS5 supercoupe, we find some more spy shots of the car courtesy of Next Autos. The RS5 will likely debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show sporting a modified version of Audi’s 4.2-liter V8 with around 450 horsepower. Considering how great of a car the S5 is, I’m very excited to see the RS5 in action. Since Audi decided to downgrade the S5 to a supercharged V6, it’s good we get to keep a V8 in the mix. Huge air intakes, a rear lip spoiler, and wide fenders hint at the extra power under the hood from the V8 engine which produce a sound the photographers said was “to die for.” I don’t doubt that for a minute. Lightweight R8 V10 Spotted

Audi is certainly not slowing down with different versions of the R8 supercar. The first version was such a success, we were then introduced to a 5.2-liter V10 version, an R8 Spyder, and a V12 TDI version (which has since been cancelled.) Now they’re testing a hardcore lightweight version of the R8 V10, which will be for drivers who take their cars to the track. The lightweight R8 V10’s aerodynamics you see in the pictures here have been modified slightly to include a front spoiler and rear fixed wing to increase downforce. A moderate power increase is also expected, but don’t think it will surpass the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4’s 552 hp. Something in the 530 hp range is a reasonable bump up from the V10’s 518 stock hp. The lightweight R8 V10 will lose some weight by removing unnecessary luxuries like air conditioning and audio system, and will likely replace the leather seats with lighter sport seats. First Images of the 2010 Audi A8

Not long after Audi gave us a teaser image of the redesigned 2010 A8, we get these first real shots of the car, which is said to have an “evolutionary” design. What that means is not much has changed, but now it’s fresh. It’s sleeker than the outgoing design, and its taillights resemble those of the Lamborghini LP560-4, the way I see it. The 2010 Audi A8 will go up against its arch rival BMW 7-Series and Mercedes S-Class, as well as the Jaguar XJ – all of which have been recently refreshed.
