Last week, we covered one artist’s conception of the R8’s replacement, which he called the R10 Concept (seen above.) Today we heard news of rumors flying around about some of the R8 successor’s specs.

According to the grapevine, the car code named R10 will sport a 5.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V10 engine, pushing out a very serious 600+ horsepower. A wider and longer body along with that incredible power should allow the Audi supercar to travel from 0 to 60 mph in just over 3 seconds. The current R8 shares a platform with its sister car, the Lamborghini Gallardo. The “R10″ is expected to share a platform with the replacement for the aging Lamborghini Murcielago supercar.

Word is spreading that prototypes disguised as Lamborghinis are being tested on Germany’s Nurburgring as we speak, which means we should expect to see this car in production form some time around 2012.
